CNC Lathe Setup Machinist

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to join our team. This role is ideal for a machinist who thrives in a low-volume, high-mix environment with constant machine setups and short production runs. The successful candidate must be capable of setting up CNC lathes and mill/turn machines independently, with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform complete and independent setup of CNC lathes and mill/turn machines using Fanuc controls, including loading programs, setting tools, proving part program and adjusting offsets as required.
Operate tight tolerance (down to .0002") jobs until completion.
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
Inspect machined parts and make necessary offsets or adjustments to ensure part accuracy.
Troubleshoot and resolve setup-related issues with minimal assistance.
Collaborate with programming and quality teams to continuously improve setup processes and reduce downtime.
Maintain clean and organized work area in accordance with company 5S and safety standards.
Qualifications:
Proven ability to set up lathes and mill/turn machines independently from start to finish.
Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and workholding.
Familiarity with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.).
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work from verbal instructions and production paperwork as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience setting up lathes and mill/turn machines.
Background in low-volume, high-mix job shop environments.
Experience machining parts for aerospace or defense companies.
CAD/CAM programming experience of any kind.
Physical Requirements:
Standing for up to 8 hours per day.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Walking, bending and kneeling.
